Since 2013, Teapot Trust has provided an Open Group art therapy service in the Outpatients Department for the Rheumatology clinic on the third Monday of each month.

As an example of how this group supports young people, parents and NHS staff, recently there was a young boy who was screaming, crying and refusing to go into his appointment. He eventually came to paint at the art table and when the doctor called his name he protested about leaving the table. Recognising the soothing effect that art was having for the boy, the doctor came and examined him as he painted. He then left him with the art therapist, so that he could have a chat with his Mum. This little snippet shows the wider impacts of the art table, as it not only enabled the child to be examined calmly but also gave mum some quiet time with the doctor, knowing that her son was safe and calm.

We will soon be working in partnership with the V&A Museum in Dundee to provide art therapy workshops for children and young people who attend our local services. Keep a look out more information, coming soon.
