Mary Nicholson Hudspith

29 Jul 1923 - 22 Mar 2021

Mary Nicholson Hudspith nee Laurie was born in Dumbarton on 29th July 1923 to parents Angus and Jean Laurie. She followed her sister Margaret into the family and she in turn was followed by Jean. The family would later move to Glasgow where Angus took work in the shipyards. Mary met the love of her life Fred, in 1940 whilst he was stationed in Scotland during the preparations for the D-day landings. They married in 1943, and a happy marriage lasted until Fred sadly passed away unexpectedly in 2000.

Mary and Fred had six children, two girls and four boys. The were devoted grandparents to fifteen grandchildren, twenty five great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Whilst caring and cooking for her large family, Mary still had time to design and make clothes and enjoyed her art. Mary loved painting and pottery, hobbies she enjoyed well into her nineties. From Mary’s childhood hiking adventures around Loch Lomond, and seeing the big ships of the Clyde setting off around the world, Mary loved to travel around the UK and Europe, and even travelled to Australia to visit friends when in her eighties. She also enjoyed camping with her family and continued to camp right up until 2019. She will be greatly missed by her many friends and her family.

Her family chose to support Teapot Trust in honour or Mary's love of art and children. Thank you for your contributions in her memory.
